Spring preparing gathering: Red Sox’s Pearce hits two HRs

Steve Pearce returned to his World Series structure on Thursday, hitting two homers for the Boston Red Sox in a 4-4 spring preparing tie with the Detroit Tigers at Lakeland, Fla.

Pearce, who hit two grand slams in the Red Sox’s Game 5 title-securing win against the Los Angeles Dodgers in October, dove deep in the fourth and 6th innings for his initial two homers of the spring.

Grayson Greiner had a two-run twofold for the Tigers.

St. Louis starter Michael Wacha surrendered five hits more than five scoreless innings in the tie at Jupiter, Fla. New York starter Zack Wheeler surrendered only two hits more than 5 1/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Chad Wallach and Dixon Machado each hit grand slams as Miami scored 10 keeps running in the initial six innings and traveled to a triumph at West Palm Beach, Fla. Robinson Chirinos, Tyler White and Alex Bregman hit grand slams for Houston.

Ronald Torreyes hit a grand slam and Jacob Pearson hit the approval single in the ninth inning as Minnesota succeeded at Sarasota, Fla. Cedric Mullins and Jace Peterson hit homers for Baltimore.

Privateers 11, Phillies (ss) 2

Adam Frazier, Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte, Kevin Newman and Colin Moran hit grand slams for Pittsburgh at Bradenton, Fla. Shane Robinson dove deep for Philadelphia.

Diamondbacks 3, Giants 0

Luke Weaver surrendered three hits more than five scoreless innings with four strikeouts as Arizona succeeded at Scottsdale, Ariz. Dereck Rodriguez surrendered one keep running more than 4 2/3 innings for San Francisco.

Reds 3, Dodgers (ss) 3

Phillip Ervin hit a grand slam and Sonny Gray pitched three scoreless innings as Cincinnati and Los Angeles played to a tie at Glendale, Ariz. Hyun-Jin Ryu surrendered two keeps running on five hits more than four innings, the principal runs he has permitted this spring, for the Dodgers.

Ryan Court’s eighth-inning fielder’s choice scored LeDarious Clark as Chicago earned the triumph at Mesa, Ariz. Adrian Sampson pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings of help for Texas.

Dodgers (ss) 12, Padres 0

Brad Miller and Cody Bellinger squashed two-run grand slams as Los Angeles blitzed San Diego at Peoria, Ariz. Austin Barnes included a performance shot for the Dodgers, and Joc Pederson hit a three-run twofold to start a six-run third inning.
